3:23pm, four days later. "Is everything packed up?" Matt asked Lindsay, Cooper, Anton, and Peter, who were all sitting on the beach, saying their good-byes to Jillian. "Maybe we'll meet up again somewhere," Lindsay assured herself as much as the rest of the people on the beach. "You never know," Jill agreed. "I'm only staying here temporarily, so it's possible, with all the traveling you guys do." "Yeah." Everyone rose as Matt came down the steps. "You guys ready to go?" They all sighed with unhappiness and nodded. "We'd better be going soon. Jill, it was nice to meet you," Matt said while offering his hand to the girl. "Peace offering?" she asked sarcastically while accepting the handshake. "In a way..." Matt smiled. Jill shook everyone's hand in a friendly way, except Peter. She gave him a hug, whispering a 'thanks' in his ear. "You're welcome," he whispered back, pretty sure of what she was talking about. The girl stood back from the group and said one more goodbye. Matt and his team turned to the flight of steps and headed to the van at the top of the hill. As they walked away, Peter turned back and waved to his friend. Jill stayed on the beach for another couple of minutes, looking after the men and woman as they disappeared at the top of the stairs. She was going to miss her new friends, and she hoped to see them again soon.
Everyone piled into the back of the green van. The lab had already been hauled away and was on its way to their next location, but no one knew where that was yet. They all sighed, knowing they would miss the place. It was nice, and they had had another temporary teammate. They all liked her in the end; Jill was a nice person. Matt started the engine and drove slowly down the winding path. They all took in the breathtaking sights once more, and waved to the townspeople as they left the village. They readied for the trip 'home,' on to their next case. |
